At Expert Recruiters, we're committed to helping you make the best impression on your job interview. Your recruiter will personally work with you to sharpen your interview and presentation skills. Below are a few helpful hints, and if you have further questions or concerns, simply contact your recruiter.

Be Prepared

Before your interview, review the job posting and do some research on the company. Your recruiter will have provided you with the website. When you go to the interview bring a copy of your resume, your references, a pen and pad (notebook). Prior to the interview, jot down some questions pertaining to the job and a list of your strengths.

Clearly Present Your Trend of Performance Over Time

Indicate the impact you have had with your current and previous employers over the past five to ten years. This is a good time to share what you can do for the interviewer's company by specifically relating your past experience and job skills to points listed in the job posting. Develop concrete examples from your school, work, life and volunteer experience that demonstrate and prove your abilities and accomplishments including:
  • Experience, Education and Industry Background
  • Problem Solving & Thinking Skills
  • Management & Organization
  • Team Leadership or the Ability to Work with a Team
  • Character
  • Values, Commitment & Goals

First Impressions

Arrive on time! And no more than 10 minutes early. The interviewer has set aside a slot for you and may have someone before you. Be professional, confident and look your best. Dress a step above what the company would expect to see on a daily basis. If you wear perfume, spray it on lightly. For additional dress hints, please see our Dress for Success Page.

Don't forget the importance of a good handshake. You won't get a chance to redo this first impression!

During the interview, stay positive and show your energy, drive and initiative. Don't compromise on this one. It is the universal trait of success.

Watch your body language. Don't cross your arms. Maintain eye contact and good posture-leaning forward slightly indicates interest.

Do not discuss salary or benefits. If you are asked about your current salary, share it, but let the interviewer know that you wouldn't want to comment on the salary without knowing all about the opportunity. At the end of the interview, if it hasn't been explained yet, ask what the next step will be.

Follow up

Call your recruiter as soon as possible after the interview. We will want to discuss your impression of the interviewer and the organization, your level of interest in the position and any questions or concerns you may have. We will call the client to discuss their impressions and get back to you with feedback.

Send a thank you letter or email outlining a couple of your strong points that were brought out in the interview and that most closely reflect what they are looking for in the position. Thank them for seeing you and let them know that you are very interested in pursuing the opportunity. Remember to proofread it very carefully and to copy your recruiter for our files.
